Lead generation

About this tool.

A UTM link is your web address with a few labels added at the end. When someone clicks it, Google Analytics knows which ad, post or message brought them, so you can see what is really working instead of guessing.

How to use it
  1. Enter the page you want people to land on.
  2. Pick the source (where the link will be posted) and the medium (the type of channel).
  3. Give the campaign a short name, copy the link, and use it in your ad or post.
Quick fill:
Your tagged link

Still needed: the page address, source, medium, campaign name.

Good to know: Use the same spelling every time. "Facebook", "facebook" and "fb" show up as three different sources in your reports. Never put UTM links on links inside your own website, only on links that bring people to it. Google Ads has its own auto-tagging, so you do not need UTM there unless you use a third-party tool.

Questions

Good to know.

Do I need UTM links if I use Google Ads?+
Google Ads can tag clicks for you automatically when auto-tagging is on. UTM links are for everything else: Facebook and Instagram ads, WhatsApp broadcasts, emails, QR codes and posts.
Where do I see UTM data in Google Analytics?+
In Google Analytics 4, open Reports, then Acquisition, then Traffic acquisition. Data can take a day to appear.
Should I use capital letters in UTM values?+
Keep them lowercase and use the same spelling every time. "Facebook" and "facebook" are reported as two different sources.
